What about the orginal idea of installing a water park at a cost of $7 million -- phase one of a $20 million, five-phase water park development I think you
guys said.
Couldn't the Jazzland site be cleaned up and some waterpark rides installed, maybe renovate Megazeph, the kiddie area and the site and parking lot be used as a City Park of some sort with a sports complex and concert area. Some pretty big concerts are held at the Old Driving Range at City park and it is sometimes hard to find a place to park. Also this would be a great site for the Louisiana Jazz and Heritage festival. For now maybe the annual "Back to the Beach Fair" could be held at the site to get people interested in the site again. If Southern Star has any kind of Ammusement industry connection as you claim, maybe you can set up a big Super carnival in the parking lot and part of the site for a week or so next summer or Christmas time to show your stuff. Maybe you can get Blaine Kern to work with you on a parade and theming.

I've been having this idea in my head for a while now, did yall ever think about buying a small amount of land, maybe a couple of acres in Metairie,
Kenner, Jefferson, or somewhere by New Orleans? I was thinking if you bought a small amount of land you could put some permanant fair rides and maybe a small
coaster. I'm sure that would do great considering how many people go to school fairs.

Right now is not a really good time for such an investment anyway. There's a credit crunch, amusement parks are high risk and require a large amount of
capital, and yet another new amusement park project has failed just months ago (Hard Rock Park). I will say that by all accounts the New Orleans market is
doing a lot better than many others in the nation during this economic hardship, but primarily because it's still recovering from Katrina.
Any type of investment right now would probably have to be modest at best. A waterpark project still seems like the best idea. Personally, I think someone should court the state again for use of the land near Zephyr field. The original proposal was VICTIMIZED by the corrupt powers that be of New Orleans. With Six Flags New Orleans out of the way perhaps such a proposal could go through without such devious political tactics.

Danny, maybe these guys can help you to present your case to investors and the City Council. But then again it would be hard to get this done in this market
with no capital of your own.

Sounds a lot like what you and Southern Star have been saying. http://www.hotel-online.c...RA/ERARoleThemeParks.html |

City Park Carousel Gardens seems to attract a very large crowd (getting larger by the year) for the Celebration in the Oaks event. A large number of the guests
who buy admission to the walking tour also buy either wristbands or tickets for the rides. On all of my visits there this Christmas (with the exception of
opening night, it was raining) the crowd was nearly unbearable. The lesson to be learned in that is the citizens of New Orleans still want a park. Of course,
that particular event features more than just a park; it has become a local Holiday tradition.
The point I'm making is that the project must attract locals by the droves in order to be successful. The regional attendance will come naturally, once word gets around, just as it has with the Oaks event in City Park. If it were just up to me, I'd gladly buy a season pass if you renovated Megazeph, cut a path through the weeds back to it, and it was the only ride in the (otherwise abandoned) park
SAVE THE MEGAZEPH!

how expensive is it to build a waterpark by itself somewhere in the six flags area, on a nice large piece of land on the westbank (or somewhere that
doesn't flood), do some moderate themeing or atleast enough to keep it from looking from that horrible park in mississippi and then move the new slides and
other equipment back to a permanent park site?
if its not too expensive, that would be ideal since the waterpark would be a completely new addition to the park (even though its kind of mixed in the park). it would give the people a little preview of how the park would be run and how well it would do, more importantly it would give possible investors a preview so they know they aren't wasting their time/money. the carnival-like idea was good and this is just similiar except its a waterpark without a carnival-like feel. feedback? |

I doubt if we will get much of a public out cry at this time about this park when there is talk again about the state reneging on on their contract with our
beloved Saints. While I'll be able to buy a couple of cups of starbucks cofee with governor Jindals tax cuts, look at what we are in danger of loosing. I
don't think people understand how much money and advertising the Saints, Hornets and the Superdome bring to this state. I don't think a lot of us
understand how a family attraction like Jazzland, Six Flags, Legend City or whatever it is called, complements the things that bring people to this area.
Things like the Aquarium of the America's, the World War II Museum, The conventions, our world class Zoo, The French Quarter and all the historic sites in
the area.
Save the Saints! Save the Megazeph! Save us from the politicians!

Danny, thanks for continuing to work on this.
One of the things you and or all of us can do is write a letter to the editor of the New Orleans Times Picayune. You can also try to get an appearance on WDSU on Norman Robinsons Hot Seat. Maybe with A New Orleans City Councilman or the mayor on the same show. Let Norman question you and I think that might give you more credibility. I heard on one of the cable news networks today that the state of California is in a financial bind now, unemployment is way up, and their education system is now considered one of the worse in the country. We have a chance to start over in this area and get back some of the talent that we lost when people were moving from here to California and other places looking for a better place and more opportunity. We can't continue to let people talk about how bad it is here and not do something about it. We can't let Six Flags continue to use the economy of our area as an excuse to use their Katrina Insurance Money and whatever they can move from the park on their other parks. The ressesion is not quite as bad here as other places. |

Danny,
Have you thought about using "Go Bonds" which is part of the GO Zone program that was created post Katrina to help spur business development in Louisiana (along with Alabama and Mississippi). Check out this link for more information. Coggy, SFNO.com |

Speaking of the go zone program. Check out the story below. Whats your take on this? What is the real story? Maybe the City can help Southern Star with this
being that they still owe money for developing this property.
Some interesting comments after the story. I especially don't agree with the comments about the Saints. http://www.nola.com/news/...nagin_says_go_zone_b.html

I doubt that the City understands it any better than You or me. You did the right thing trying to ask the Governor. He is a very intelligent person. Hopefully
he or someone on his staff will send you a reply. Also, Arnie Fielkow at the very least always acknowleges our questions.

Story at NOLA.com about Go Zone money for New Orleans.
http://www.nola.com/news/..._new_orleans_will_us.html Ed Blakely, New Orleans Recovery Czar says New Orleans will not loose Go Zone money. Danny, have you guys talked to Mr. Blakely lately? A while back Mr. Fielkow told me in an e-mail reply that I brought up some interesting questions about Six Flags honoring their contract. I had asked him if Six Flags had the right to move some of the original rides to their other parks and also if they had not honored their contract by not running an ammusement park and not using Katrina insurance money on the park. Councilman Fieldkow who is an attorney himself sent the questions to the city attorney for an oppinion and she sent me an e-mail saying she would look into it. I heard nothing since. E-mail addresses of the Mayor, Recovery Director, City Council and city attorney in case some of you guys want to send e-mails to at least keep the park on their minds. ejblakely@cityofno.com ray.nagin@mayorofno.com afielkow@cityofno.com jbclarkson@cityofno.com chmorrell@cityofno.com cwlewis@cityofno.com jcarter@cityofno.com shead@cityofno.com smidura@cityofno.com pmfields@cityofno.com (city attorney)
